Just a few short months ago, none of us could have imagined the impact COVID-19 would have on our families and our community. For some this experience has been scary and unbelievably tragic; for others, it’s just been frustrating and taxing; for yet others, it’s forced us to reevaluate our lifestyles and maybe shift our priorities in a good way. In any case, it is giving us a chance to consider what’s really important in our lives. I know in my case, it has reinforced my belief in the value of community.
I see it in the generous outpouring of support for the doctors nurses and workers at New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital. I see it in our support of local merchants who are struggling to keep the doors open and keep us all fed. Also, I see it in the kindness shown to our first responders and everyone from the mail men and women to the sanitation workers and each other. On the whole, it seems to be bringing out our better angels and making us feel more connected at a time when we are unfortunately forced to be physically distant from one another. So to that end, I offer the Armour Villa Neighborhood Association as our anchor to keep us connected and supported and furnished with really critical information and social connection we all need to get through this crisis.
If you are new to Armour Villa, I urge you to take a few moments right now and join the association so we can welcome you into our extended family and be there when you need us, or to be just a friendly voice and a way to make social connection. This is also a good time to remind all of our existing members that unfortunately because we cannot hold the picnic this year, we need you to you send in your dues renewal by June 1. You can write a check to join or renew and pay for your basic dues of $50 made out to Armour Villa Colony Inc. and send it to Steve Wagner 14 Gard Avenue, Bronxville, NY 10708. You can also pay by credit or debit card at the link below. We also welcome your choosing to become a friend or supporter of Armour Villa at the $75 or $100 level.
The Villa Voice will soon be arriving with special coverage of COVID 19, and our dedicated Facebook page and email system continue to be vital links in our communication chain keeping us informed and connected.
Thank you and stay strong, stay safe and stay home!
