State and Local officials Visit Armour Villa to Help Solve Flooding Issues

Thursday, July 27th, 2003 - Steve Wagner

Yesterday was an extraordinary day in our beloved neighborhood of Armour Villa. We hosted influential state officials, including New York State Assembly Leader Carl Heastie, State Senator Shelley Mayer, New York State Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins, among other esteemed guests. They heard our stories and saw firsthand the challenges we face due to flooding. This testament to the power of community action reinforced our role as the architects of change and protectors of our neighborhood's unique history and spirit.

In their presence, we presented our struggles with flooding and other pressing issues, showing the urgency of our needs and how they extend beyond Armour Villa to neighboring communities. I am immensely proud to share Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie's unprecedented commitment: a $1.3 million state funding allocation to alleviate flooding in the Wiltshire Place/ Cross St./ Bronxville Rd. areas. As we continue working closely with Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, we are hopeful of effecting tangible change on Parkview Rd. and for the homes along The Bronx River Parkway.

I extend my deepest gratitude to Chris and Marisa Kaufman. Their tireless advocacy and instrumental role in forming the flood task force and TUFFR have been pivotal in illuminating these pressing issues. Much of yesterday's success is due to their dedication and effort. Our treasurer, Armando Tejeda, has been our steady rock, always ready to ensure our Association is tech-ready and primed for any opportunity. His work is vital in strengthening our collective endeavor.

Yesterday's gathering was a sight to behold, none more so than our community's newest member - baby Aiden, the son of Jessica Doolan and Mike Niebanc. Aiden, with his endearing charm, symbolized our advocacy for a safer, better Armour Villa. Our young families, like Jess and Mike's, are the future. They deserve an environment where they can flourish.

Your dedication, involvement, and belief in our collective power, the "Villa," are pivotal to our success. Let's keep up the momentum. If you aren't part of the Association yet, now is the time to join. Visit Armour Villa Website to pledge your support and amplify our voice.

A special note of thanks to Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, Senator Shelley Mayer, Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, County Executive George Latimer, County Legislator James Nolan, former County Legislator Ruth Mayer, and City Councilman Mike Breen for their invaluable support. Their assistance has been instrumental in advancing our cause and helping secure the funds necessary to tackle our flooding issues.

Thank you all for making yesterday a defining moment in Armour Villa's history. As we look towards a brighter, flood-free future, let's remember this momentous day as a testament to our community's strength and unity.
